“Though Felicity Jones may seem an eccentric choice to play the Jewish, Brooklyn-born legal icon, the gifted British actress has no trouble finding the intellectual rigor and propulsive drive that define this 5’1” dynamo.”

Rolling Stone

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the second woman to become a US Supreme Court Justice when she was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993. Felicity Jones stars as Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Armie Hammer as her husband ‘Marty’ in the inspiring biopic based on the early life and career of the American lawyer.

One of only very few women accepted at Harvard Law School in 1956, Bader Ginsburg overcame entrenched social and institutional forces to forge a career as a passionate advocate for gender equality and women’s rights. Some of her more notable dissents in her role as Supreme Court Justice have more recently earned Bader Ginsburg the pop culture sobriquet, ‘Notorious RBG’.

Mimi Leder’s compelling film also chronicles the egalitarian marriage and family life that sustained Bader Ginsburg while she took on landmark cases that helped define the battle for equal rights. Her husband, Martin D Ginsburg, who became a prominent tax lawyer, never wavered in his support of his brilliant wife’s career.

Written by Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s nephew, Daniel Stiepleman, On the Basis of Sex also features Justin Theroux, Kathy Bates (Misery) and Sam Waterston (Gracie and Frankie) in an excellent supporting cast.
