“an adult fairy tale, a romantic yarn of blossoming love and a coming-of-age comedy that has the makings of a modern classic”
Bella Brown (Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay) leads a solitary though richly imaginative life in a quiet pocket of central London. An aspiring writer and 'oddest of oddballs', Bella routinely tests the patience of her employer, head librarian Mrs Bramble (a reliably excellent Anna Chancellor). Pressure mounts when Bella’s landlord threatens to cancel her rental contract if she does not attend to the property’s neglected garden. Despite the reproachful attitude of her quarrelsome neighbour, Alfred (Tom Wilkinson), the two enter into an uneasy alliance in the service of the greater good. Andrew Scott (Pride, Swallows and Amazons) brings great warmth and humour to the role of Vernon, Alfred’s harried cook.
