Coffee and Cigarettes

Shot over a number of years, Coffee and Cigarettes captures an eclectic mix of characters played by actors and musicians including Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Tom Waits and Iggy Pop drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and discussing everything from healthy living to caffeine popsicles.

In 1986, Jim Jarmusch shot the first Coffee and Cigarettes short film starring the unlikely duo of Roberto Benigni and comedian Steven Wright. Over the best part of the decade to follow, he produced numerous short films with an array of stars, each playing fictionalized versions of themselves. Hilarious and full of stellar performances, each vignette - stunningly shot in black and white - beautifully links these tall tales and brief encounters.
