Fifty-four year old Teresa (Berlinale Best Actress winner Paulina García) has worked for decades as the live-in maid for an upper class family in Buenos Aires. But when they can no longer afford to employ her, they find Teresa works with their in-laws, who live miles away in San Juan. Although daunted by the prospect of making a completely new life, she embarks on the trip. At her first stop, in the land of the miraculous “Saint Correa”, she loses her small bag with all her belongings. The incident leads her to cross paths with Gringo (Claudio Rissi), a free-spirited door-to-door salesman, who offers to help. What seems like the end of the world may ultimately prove her salvation.
Gorgeously shot by acclaimed cinematographer Sergio Armstrong (Neruda) and observed with great delicacy and charm, THE DESERT BRIDE is a film full of simple pleasures and universal truths, and a seductive reminder that it’s never too late to discover a true identity.
“Arresting. A captivating two-hander, as soothing as a desert breeze”
