“An exceptionally warm crowd-pleaser...Leuenberger [is] definitely a performer to watch”

RogerEbert.com

Nora (Marie Leuenberger) is happily married with two school-age boys but can’t help wistfully contemplating a life beyond housework and the village she grew up in. Inspired by a women’s rights activist who hands her a copy of The Feminine Mystique and learning that she needs her husband’s permission to work part-time, Nora sets out to challenge the law and unite the town’s women.

An uplifting drama set in the lead up to the historic referendum on voting rights for Swiss women, The Divine Order affirms the value of female solidarity but also of understanding between the sexes. In a perfectly pitched performance, Nora’s husband Hans (Maximilian Simonischek) does his best to support his wife’s quest and learns that patriarchal structures can repress men too.

The Divine Order is a warm, generous drama that won the Nora Ephron and Audience Award for Best Narrative Film at the Tribeca Film Festival, where Leuenberger also took out the Best Actress in an International Narrative Feature Award.
