“Astonishingly beautiful...[a] profound, elegant drama”
The latest film from French master Francois Ozon (Potiche, 8 Women) is a subtle and absorbing tale of love and remembrance. In a small German town in the wake of the First World War, Anna (Paula Beer), a young woman mourning the death of her fiance, Frantz Hoffmeister, forms a bond with a stranger, Adrien Rivoire (Pierre Niney), who appears one day to lay flowers on her beloved's grave. The arrival of the enigmatic foreigner raises suspicions and ignites passions in a town in which Germany's bitter defeat is still keenly felt. Encouraged by Frantz's grieving parents, who cautiously welcome the Frenchman into their home, Anna feels compelled to press Adrien about the history he shared with the man that affected both their lives so deeply.
"Ozon is often at his best when working with women and he has a fabulous talent in Paula Beer...she's stunning" The Guardian
