As Anne (Julie Christie) searches for answers about the mysterious affair between her great-aunt Olivia (Greta Scacchi) and an Indian prince (Shashi Kapoor), she becomes immersed in the Indian culture, and the pull of the past leads her to a clearer view of her own future.
