Large as Life: The Cinematic Legacy of Jack Anderson

John (Jack) Anderson loved film. Loved everything about it.

The amateur filmmaker loved it so much he bought a run-down theatre and, with his wife and business partner Marie, transformed it into Ballarat's magnificent Regent Cinemas – the first multiplex in regional Victoria.

Jack and Marie Anderson's legacy is extraordinary; from their investment in central Ballarat with the restoration of the Regent Cinemas to capturing the flickering footage of everyday life and events in Ballarat from the 1940s to 1980s, much of it unseen by the public.

The Anderson Family recently bequeathed the Jack Anderson archive to ACMI for safekeeping and digitisation. We recently honoured Jack Anderson's films as part our Amazing Amateurs series.

Join the Anderson Family and all lovers of cinema on this special night, to honour Jack Anderson’s vision and foresight, to share the magic of his cinematography and to experience how film artists have interpreted his vision.

All proceeds go to the Ballarat Arts Foundation.
