Artefact commemorates the mysterious phenomenon of brand disappearance from Blackberry, to Nokia to Atari. It is a tribute to the immortal consumer icons we have internationally adored, and the intimate and fickle ways we worship them. Audience members will be able to participate in the film-performance via their mobile phones.
A commission for the International Prize for Live Art, the film was created by Willoh S Weiland and JR Brennan over six months with the community of Kuopio, Finland. It stars some of its best loved choirs, death metal singers, funeral directors and stone masons. It farewells the products that have formed us in a haunting art film that is part documentation and part video clip.
The Artefact film screening is supported by ACMI, the City of Melbourne and Creative Victoria.
Artefact is a co-production by ANTI - Contemporary Art Festival and Aphids Events. The project is supported by the Saastamoinen Foundation and the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body and the HIAP residency program, Helsinki.
