Svankmajer's Surreal Wonderlands ACMI presents

Alice & Down to the Cellar

Dark and menacing themes Scroll to content

For his debut feature film, renowned Czech animator Jan Švankmajer (Faust, Little Otik) took inspiration from Lewis Carroll's classic tale, Alice in Wonderland.

Švankmajer's dark surrealism finds ample inspiration in Wonderland, and the familiar creatures become taxidermy animals and unhomely household objects.

Screens on an imported 35mm print, coupled with an earlier short film, Down to the Cellar.

See Švankmajer's drawings, puppets and macabre original set pieces when you visit Wonderland.

This session is Unclassified 15+.  Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
