In 1799, the Santo Domingo is sailing to Peru, when a slave mutiny erupts on board. Only seven crew members survive, including the Captain, Benito Cereno. The leader of the mutiny, Atimbo, wants to sail back to Africa. When the ship encounters troubles, an American vessel comes to the rescue. Cereno explains that his crew has taken ill with scurvy, including the human cargo imported from Africa. The slaves are down to only a few healthy men and Cereno is awaiting the right
