Jeanne Dandieu lives with her parents and Rosalie, the maid, in a Normandy mansion. She is rescued from drowning by Julien de la Mare. For Jeanne, it is love at first sight. She introduces him to her parents. A few months later they are engaged to be married. This hurry starts rumours in the village that Julien is only marrying to pay off his debts. Their relationship seems a happy one until the day Jeanne’s parents leave the mansion. Jeanne discovers that her husband is having an affair with Rosalie and that she is pregnant. Jeanne feigns forgiveness, but plans in secret to take her revenge.
