A small-time crook, together with a couple of friends, plans a forgery operation using the skills of Robert, an engraver and the husband of his mistress. A professional mastermind is persuaded out of retirement to run the racket, and he and Robert double-cross the others to make off with the loot. This film gave an opportunity to Michel Audiard and Albert Simonin to write finely chiselled dialogues, filled with ‘argot’ and unforgettable one-liners
