Lagardere vows to protect Aurore, the baby daughter of his friend, Philippe de Nevers, who has just been murdered by his cousin Gonzague, who was coveting his fortune. Falsely accused of the murder, Lagardere swears he will seek to avenge his friend and help Aurore recover her fortune and rank in society. This favourite swashbuckling adventure has also been filmed by Andre Hunebelle (1960) and Philippe de Broca (1997).
