Feature film by French film-maker Jean Rouch, filmed in West Africa, about three young men who leave their life of cattle herding in the arid savanna bordering the Sahara, and travel thousands of miles to Ghana (then the Gold Coast) and back again. Rouch uses non-actors who improvise their parts. ‘A brilliant example of the role which creative interpretation can play in ethnographic film-making’. (David MacDougall in Film Quarterly).
