While in prison, Jacques encounters the hostility of the other inmates who suspect him to be a snitch. A sudden reversal of situation gives him an opportunity to acquire both prestige and the trust of his companions. Ather this incident, inmates band together to help prove his innocence. Jacques finds himself free, without knowing to whom he owns his freedom. Awards: Prix Jean Vigo 1961.
