Fanny has allowed Marius to leave her to become a sailor without telling him she was expecting his child. In order to avoid dishonor, Fanny’s mother, Honorine, is pushing the young woman to marry the wealthy and much older Panisse. Upon his return Marius learns about the wedding and the reason for so much haste. Careful to secure a future for ‘his’ grand son, Cesar, Marius’ father, persuades him to renounce any claim to the child. ‘Fanny’ is the second installement of Pagnol’s Marseille trilogy, started with ‘Marius’.
