The Council is starting to discuss land appropiation and one councillor is expressing his determination not to give up his land. Everybody is starting to realise that the soul of the village is about to be irretrievably destroyed. During the engagement ceremony of Francois and Martine (Lauzon’s daughter), Aunt Agathe dies. Lauzon who now stands to inherit large plots of land earmarked for appropriation becomes one of the staunches opponents to the resort.
