Kids' Flicks with Feelings

Flex your emotional muscles this winter with two thoughtful films that explore time travel, empathy and how our behaviours might impact those around us.

We're all intelligent in different ways. Some of us are great with numbers, some with words – and some of us shine when it comes to emotional intelligence. The good news is that emotional intelligence is something we can build, and watching films is a great way to practise.

Time travel films can be a lot of fun and they often take us on exciting, high-stakes adventures, but, there is often a lot more to these films than we might expect. Time travel films also explore the impact that our actions and behaviours (big and small) can have on the people around us. This might seem amplified in a time travel story where small actions can profoundly change the futures we know, but it's actually no different in our reality.

Across the winter school holidays, we’re exploring these narratives with two very thoughtful films: Arco and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Each session begins with a short curator-led introduction to key emotional intelligence concepts. Afterwards, you can pick up an activity kit designed to help curious minds continue learning at home.
