David Bowie is joined by some scary monsters, courtesy of director and puppeteer Jim Henson, in the 1986 family favourite.
Teenager Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) imagines she lives in a dream world of magic and legend. When she offhandedly wishes that goblins would take her baby brother away, her wish comes true, and she finds her imagined world has been brought to life! The only way to get her brother back is to navigate through a labyrinth and come face to face with Jareth the Goblin King (David Bowie).
Curator’s Note
Great music, fantastic puppetry, and an iconic performance by David Bowie combine to make Jim Henson’s Labyrinth a film that audiences return to time and time again.
Featuring a cavalcade of creatures that you’ll either find lovable or will give you the heebie-jeebies (maybe both), the film is a showcase of Henson’s enormous talent as a designer and storyteller.
There are some scary moments in the labyrinth, but they serve as important reminders of Sarah’s high-stakes journey to save her brother in this fantastical world where there are no guarantees that things will go as planned.
Tickets to our Kids' Flicks with Feelings films include a pre-screening talk that introduces the concept of emotional intelligence to younger viewers, as well as a take-home activity kit.
