Granaz Moussavi is an Iranian-born poet and filmmaker. She studied drama in Tehran 1991–94 and continued her studies in Australia, entering a BA course in Screen Studies in 1998 before attaining an honours degree in Flinders University in 2002. She holds a postgraduate degree in Film Editing from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and in 2013 she successfully completed a Doctorate in Film Studies and Filmmaking at the University of Western Sydney with a thesis project on the aesthetics of poetic cinema. She has published 5 collections of poetry translated into 9 languages and made several short films and documentaries. Her debut feature film My Tehran For Sale (writer/director/producer) won an Australian IF award for best independent film and was internationally premiered in Toronto film festival.
Granaz produced her second feature film on location in Afghanistan: When Pomegranates Howl (writer/director/producer) in 2021 and was nominated for Best Youth Feature Film in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards and is Australia’s foreign language entry to the Academy Awards 2022.
