Professional learning with St Gabriel's Primary School

St Gabriel's Primary School Reservoir engaged with ACMI in 2024 as part of their professional development day. Teachers took part in a tailored morning of workshops exploring Light and Shadow and Videogame Character Creation then found about the broad range of ACMI schools programs and exhibitions available for schools.

We really enjoyed the workshop today and can see how we can transfer these skills immediately to our classrooms, and I want to say that is definitely not always the case when we go to PL sessions.

Gemma Goodyear, School Principal

ACMI welcomes such opportunities to develop relationships with teachers and find out more about their school programs and needs. As a result of our engagement with the St Gabriel’s Primary teachers, we went on to host a whole school excursion to ACMI during our Beings Exhibition. The junior year levels took part in a special stop-motion animation workshop whilst the year 3-6 students were treated to a special animation film package. Watch the wonderful Transfiguration animation their Prep-2 students produced:

ACMI later joined the schools’ unique Engaging with Place classroom for six weeks to explore the significance of Country and the practices of First Nations people in caring for it, using the ACMI Game Lesson and Melbourne-made videogame Paperbark.
