Character and Creature Design
Virtual Workshop (Years 3–6)
When
Fri 16 Jun
11.30am–12.10pm AEST
Learn about character and creature design in the award-winning animated television series The Deep.
The Deep is an action/adventure/comedy television series that follows the adventures of the Nekton family - a brilliant team of underwater explorers who travel to the mysterious depths of the ocean.
Combining ocean science knowledge with imagination and creativity, this session unpacks the pre-production process of designing and developing the entertaining characters and fantastical creatures from The Deep. Some of the sea creatures are based on extinct animals; others are influenced by creatures found in our oceans today; others are based on legends and stories.
During the virtual session students hear from designers Avrill and James to explore the process of developing and designing creatures in The Deep.
The accompanying resource includes tasks and activities centred around science and fiction, asking students to undertake an ocean science research task, design their own creature, create a habitat and write a creative story for an episode of The Deep.
