About the presenters
Dr Amanda Levido is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Southern Cross University, Australia. She currently researches media literacy education in school and out-of-school contexts and considers how rapidly emerging technologies impact on media literacy education, particularly for young children. She is a qualified secondary school media teacher and has experience working with primary school teachers to include Media Arts and digital technologies in their classrooms. Amanda is an Affiliated Investigator with the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child.
Michael Dezuanni is Professor in the School of Communication at Queensland University of Technology. He undertakes research about digital media, literacies and learning in home, school and community contexts. He is a chief investigator in the national ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child. Michael has been involved with media literacy education for over 30 years as a secondary media teacher and as a teacher educator and researcher. He was expert advisor to ACARA for the develop of Media Arts for the Australian Curriculum.
Tammy White is a PHD candidate at QUT, her research considers how digital media literacy pedagogy is approached during early childhood education. Specifically, she is interested in understanding the links between digital device usage and the development of critical media literacies that enable young children to successfully navigate diverse media landscapes. Tammy hopes to help establish baseline assumptions about the development of these literacies in young children, and provide parents, educators and policy-makers with more concrete guidance in considering the role of digital media literacy pedagogy during early childhood education.
