Play to Learn: Digital Games as Educational Tools

Teacher professional learning

When

27th March 2026

9am - 4pm

Join us for an engaging full-day workshop designed to transform your teaching through the power of digital games! You'll explore research-backed theory behind game-based learning, discover practical frameworks for curriculum integration, and get hands-on experience playing games. We'll tackle common technology barriers together, provide time for you to create and adapt game-based lessons for your own classroom, and connect you with like-minded educators. Whether you're a gaming novice or enthusiast, you'll leave with concrete strategies, ready-to-use resources, and a supportive network to help you successfully integrate digital games into your teaching practice. This session is open to both primary and secondary teachers.

Shea Rigney has over ten years experience teaching with digital games across several key learning areas including Humanities, English, and in specialist settings. Outside of school, she has engaged with Western Sydney University researching the use of digital games in History, Indigenous games, and the impact of government policy on digital accessibility. Shea has presented her work internationally at the European Game-Based Learning Conference this year in Norway, and will also be presenting at the Australian Association for Education Research Conference later this year.
