ACMI Experimental Forum FAQ
When
The ACMI Experimental Forum provides a rare opportunity for artists to present experimental video and performance works-in-development and receive guided audience feedback. Artists are provided with access to ACMI's state-of-the-art facilities, invaluable audience feedback and a $100 presentation fee.
Artists looking to present work at the ACMI Experimental Forum can submit an application here.
An art critique (or ‘crit’) is a structured group discussion used predominantly in art school spaces to give the presenting artist an opportunity to hear how a viewer engages with their work.
Yes! ACMI provides each participating artist with a $100 presentation fee.
This session will follow a ‘silent crit’ format where the presenting artist does not introduce their work. After viewing the piece, moderator Tanya Cubric guides the discussion by first addressing the formal aspects of the work (medium, visual effects, sound, performance choices etc) before opening the floor to more subjective responses. Finally the artist is invited to respond to the points raised.
Absolutely, and bring your friends! Audience members can choose to provide feedback or simply view the works being presented. Attendance is FREE and you can register to attend via the link on this page.
Presenting works in development is a vulnerable act. It is expected that viewers are mindful of this when offering their feedback. Although the moderator, Tanya Cubric, will be leading the discussions, it is all of our duty to safeguard the space.
Each session will begin with a reminder of this format.
