The ACMI + RMIT Audience Lab program allows players, developers and those who are just curious to help support emerging videogames professionals while having a great time.
This month's Lab features the newest creations from the final year students of RMIT's Bachelor of Design (Games).
About the games
Freighter 50-8
Freighter 50-8 involves playing as a mechanic on an old freighter spaceship which has been repurposed by a mega corporation, Colstar Dynamics, using a brand new AI model (Digitised Navigator System/DNS) which takes control over the major functions of the ship (Movement, Security, Habitation, etc). However, its imperfection leads to failures on systems which breaks the ship apart. The player is tasked with fixing various things around the ship that break as a result of the AI.
Call of the Curse
You overhear the elders talking about consuming your planet! How dare they, just because you aren't a fully grown eldritch horror yet, doesn't mean they can take your planet! Recruit beings to your side to assist you in defeating the eldritch horrors... but try not to spill your true plan for world domination, they might not like that.
Helm of Heresy
Champion thy Helm of Heresy and escape through the desolate dungeons of a theocratic kingdom. Uncover these dungeons and combat the guards to forge ahead towards freedom.
SpellRush
SpellRush is a fast-paced bullet heaven where you unleash almighty spells against endless hordes of slimes, bats, and mushrooms?? Level up, stack powerful upgrades, and create over-the-top builds to survive as long as you can!
Bilby Blue
Bilby Blue is a short cozy adventure set in the Australian bush, where you play as a little Bilby at school camp. Join her on a late night bush walk and wander through the quiet but alive landscape... what will you find along the way?
Heart Beater
Heart Beater is a side scroller, beat-em-up experience where players play as the “Cupid of the Month” at the Love company in a fast-paced, visual feast of hyper-feminine Girlypop! to defend their title from their jealous coworkers.
The Lost One
The Lost One is a short walking simulator set in a sci-fi post-apocalyptic world. It focuses on atmosphere, storytelling through environment design, and simple but immersive visuals. The game offers a quiet and reflective experience, combining cinematic camera work with a sense of loneliness and exploration in a ruined yet beautiful world.
ROAM
ROAM follows Nuggets – a small, feathered Sinosauropteryx prima – on a heartfelt journey to find its elusive mate’s nest. Watch as Nuggets travels through a beautifully stylised Cretaceous birch forest, painted in hues of gold and amber. Help Nuggets explore an environment where they will jump, crouch and weave through dense forest, feast on fruits and insects and encounter other dinosaurs along the way.
Mens Mala
You find yourself in a dangerous maze filled with monsters and traps. You must seek to escape by following the flowers that will aid you and even evolve you. Navigate a gritty maze, help your teammates and keep them close to keep your sight, and survive the dangers of the putrid environment and only then may you have a chance to see yourself to the end.
It's Dinner Time
It’s Dinner Time is a driving-based delivery game, with PS-style graphics, a lo-fi house soundtrack and quick-paced game loop. You deliver pizza (and other things...) in your Uncle’s new lime green Ford Falcon to locations around our Australian sandbox suburbia. Your aim? To try keep Uncle Al's restaurant 'Long Porketta' alive by beefing the ratings up! Drive fast, crash hard & deliver the goods before it’s too late.
Coral Bloom
Players control a turtle who restores life to the ocean by touching the hearts of the coral and brings back the color to nature
Dero Dazza's Dirty Dash
Play as the infamous Eshay Legend [Dero Dazza] using your modified Heely-TN's to blaze through Melbourne suburbs while collecting classic lad apparel; Bumbags, Ralph Polos, Graff and more. Live up to the [SEND IT] mentality and finish as fast as possible lad!
