Presented to coincide with the Open House Melbourne Weekend
We’ve been collecting film, videogames, artworks, home movies, stills and press kits – as well as a huge range of other paraphernalia – for over 75 years, ever since ACMI was conceived as a film lending and education organisation known as the State Film Centre. Inside the Blackmagic Design Media Preservation Lab, our staff and collaborators are digitising our film and time-based media collections, assessing physical artefacts from our videogame collection and film donations, as well as conducting hours of quality assessment work on our born-digital works to make the collection accessible onsite and online.
The Blackmagic Design Media Preservation Lab is a first of its kind facility dedicated to preserving Australia’s analogue past while ensuring its digital present is accessible for generations to come.
