Join one of Australia’s most intriguing game developers as we explore the intersection of play, philosophy and the human condition.

Bennett Foddy is a game developer, moral philosopher and musician.

He has become well known for creating games with deliberately frustrating mechanics that have frequently gone viral, challenging the player’s preconceptions about the notion of gameplay itself. His quirky and incredibly difficult best-selling game Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy centres around a naked man in a cauldron attempting to climb a mountain using only a sledgehammer. It was immediately popular with streamers and content creators, introducing the world to Foddy’s design philosophies and mechanics.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to dive deep into Foddy’s career and practice, from early experiments such as QWOP to his latest release Baby Steps, exploring the role of difficulty and frustration in games, the concept of “handmade”, the place for deliberate jank within game design and the challenge of evoking a true emotional response in the player.
