Press pause on fiction and celebrate the power of documentary storytelling on the big screen.

Celebrate this year’s Australian International Documentary Conference with a thoughtfully curated selection of documentaries from Australia and around the world.

This year’s program weaves itself into the fabric of the conference theme Hold True — a call to stand firm in the face of challenges, obstacles and adversity when the odds feel impossible. Each film spotlights storytellers who persist with clarity, courage and conviction.

From frontline filmmaking in Ukraine in 2000 Meters to Andriivka, to the David-and-Goliath tensions at the core of Deepfaking Sam Altman, these works reveal the emotional, political and personal stakes behind nonfiction cinema. They remind us that documentary filmmaking is rarely simple — it asks artists to hold their ground, trust their truth and speak to the world with heart.

Join us as we honour filmmakers who refuse to look away and craft stories that move us, challenge us and reflect the world as it really is.
