Celebrate the launch of 10 books about 10 films, one for every year of the 2000s, with a series of screenings, talks and book launches.
In 2021, independent publishing house Fireflies Press will launch a new series, the Decadent Editions: 10 books about 10 films, one for every year of the 2000s. Written by some of today’s most compelling cultural critics, each book is a deep dive into a single film. These idiosyncratic studies are ambitious and insightful, yet playful and inviting.
ACMI is proud to be a publishing partner on the Decadent Editions. The series opened with Nick Pinkerton’s book on Goodbye, Dragon Inn (directed by Tsai Ming-liang, 2003) with a screening of the newly restored film. In June 2021 we launched Erika Balsom's book Ten Skies, about James Benning’s 2004 film, considered one of the great works of American experimental cinema. November 2021 saw the launch of Melissa Anderson’s book on David Lynch's Inland Empire (2006) with an accompanying film program on the incomparable Laura Dern.
