A 3-week film season dedicated to the famous Japanese film score composer whose worked very closely with Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki and Takeshi Kitano. Let Joe Hisaishi push your emotional buttons with a season dedicated to the famed film score composer.

For 130 years, we’ve been celebrating cinema as a visual artform, but there’s more to the medium than what our eyes take in. Even from the days of the silent era, music has been the constant companion to film with live scores performed live in-cinema. Today, the film score is offstage, offscreen and invisible to audiences, but its contribution to cinema is profound.

Profound too is the contribution to cinema by Joe Hisaishi: one of the great film composers of our time. His decades-long collaboration with Hayao Miyazaki has created film scores that range from the minimalist and melancholic to rousing calls to action and adventure.

For most of his career, Hisaishi has worked on Japanese and Chinese productions often forging long-lasting relationships with directors. With his first Hollywood film being released in cinemas this Spring (A Big Bold Beautiful Journey) we take a look at Joe Hisaishi’s career of pulling on our heartstrings and pushing our emotional buttons.
