A lesbian love story meets Chinese family drama in this witty and heartfelt rom-com about identity, secrecy and second chances.

Wil is a young Chinese-American surgeon navigating her closeted relationship with a dancer – all while her conservative mother unexpectedly moves in, pregnant out of wedlock and shunned by their tight-knit community. As secrets unravel and generations collide, Saving Face crafts a feel-good story about love, tradition and the courage to live truthfully.

Alice Wu’s feature debut was one of the first mainstream lesbian films centred on Asian-American characters. With a warm blend of humour and heartache, Saving Face broke ground for queer Asian representation in Western cinema. Over the years, it has become a cult classic and a touchstone for LGBTQIA+ audiences seeking joy and relatability on screen.

Curated by the Chinese Independent Film Foundation and Beijing Queer Film Festival.
