Join us for a special screening of Na Hong-jin's new film followed by a Q&A with the local team behind the film's enormously dynamic cinematography.
Something strange is happening in the sleepy portside village of Hope Harbour.
After reports of beast-like attacks on livestock on the outskirts of town, Hope Harbour's police chief (Hwang Jung-min) is called out to investigate. The scratch marks are too big to be a bear, and there have been rumours of tigers migrating south from North Korea. Within moments, attacks escalate and the people of Hope Harbour find themselves enormously outmatched by the rampaging threat at hand.
Curator’s note
Ten years after his terrifying horror film The Wailing, director Na Hong-jin returns with his highly anticipated follow-up feature. Hope premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, his fourth to premiere at the festival, and his first to compete for the Palme d'Or. As a horror, Hope feels like a rich world-building beginning. As an action film, Hope will have viewers nail prints deeply etched into cinema armrest.
Join us in the cinema after the screening for an insightful Q&A with XM2 founder Stephen Oh whose camera work has shaped Hope, as well as House of the Dragon and Killers of the Flower Moon. And share an up-close look at the equipment used to capture some of the film’s most extraordinary sequences.
