Making Marie Antoinette

Big Screen Premiere

Eleanor Coppola | United States, Italy | 2026 | CTC

Keep up with the Coppolas - the late Eleanor Coppola's intimate documentary takes us behind the scenes of her daughter Sofia's Versailles-shot extravagance, Marie Antoinette.

In 2005, Sofia Coppola shot her third feature film, Marie Antoinette, at the Palace of Versailles with Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman – the first film ever granted access to the palace. Her mother, the acclaimed documentarian Eleanor Coppola, accompanied her on set, capturing about 80 hours of footage chronicling her daughter's journey through the making of the film.

Now, 20 years after Marie Antoinette's release, that previously unseen material becomes Making Marie Antoinette, fulfilling Eleanor's wish. The film explores the craftsmanship behind the production, follows Costume Designer Milena Canonero at work, and offers a glimpse into what it meant to be a young female director at the time.

Join us for a special in-cinema screening of the film. Making Marie Antoinette will be available to stream on MUBI from Friday 6 November.
