When
Feel the defiant energy of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy’s early days in this seminal documentary
On 26 January 1972, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy was established on the lawn in front of the Old Parliament House in Canberra. Over fifty years later, the Embassy is now the world's longest continuous protest for Indigenous land rights.
Bob Maza, Carol Johnson, Mum Shirl, Paul Coe and Dr Fred Hollows contribute interviews to the film, which accompany newsreel footage and observations of meetings and discussion groups. What Ningla A-Na captures is the energy at the heart of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy protest, placing it within the context of the burgeoning Black Power movement in Australia.
Today, Ningla A-Na is considering one of Australia's great protest films.
Ningla A-Na will also screen exclusively for First Nations Film Club members on Tuesday 8 December.
