We launch our summer Matinee program with the new 4K restoration of Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller, direct from Cannes.
Psychoanalyst Constance Petersen (Ingrid Bergman) has fallen in love with J.B. (Gregory Peck) an amnesia patient accused of murder. Convinced of his innocence and with psychoanalysis at her disposal, Constance sets out to cure his amnesia and unlock his secrets.
Marking America’s growing fascination with psychoanalysis following World War II, Spellbound brings together an intimidating team of creatives whose work across different art forms has left an unforgettable impression. Surrealist artist Salvador Dali designed the iconic dream sequence; Stanislavski-trained Michael Chekov who plays Constance's mentor brought method acting to the set; and composer Miklós Rózsa wrote the Academy Award-winning score, pioneering the use of the Theremin in the process.
All of these elements are brought together by Alfred Hitchcock to create a visually striking romantic thriller, presented here in a crisp 4K digital restoration making its Australia premiere after being unveiled at Cannes.
