A jazz trombonist drowns his sorrows after his wife disappears en route to their honeymoon. Returning home to Tokyo he discovers her body in their apartment and sets out to find her killer. Hurtled from bar to bar across the seedy terrain of urban Tokyo, he is opened up to the vices, horrors and attractions of an insidious underworld. Suzuki’s rarely screened, visually stunning and propulsively energetic noir-tinged crime movie – his eleventh feature in three years – provides a fascinatingly kinetic portrayal of guilt, revenge and addiction.
