Yuin Country is breathtaking, alive and brimming with history. In this interactive experience, produced in collaboration with 15 Yuin Nation leaders and community members by the team at Yarn – including prolific multi-form filmmaker Michael Beets (Nezunoban, MIFF 2021; Jafri, MIFF 2016) as lead developer – users are invited to don their ‘cultural goggles’ and take part in transformative, intimate experiences normally reserved for family: the art of ritual burning, the creation by hand of a possum-skin cloak, visiting sacred ground through an ancient story. Journeying across some of the most significant heritage sites on the New South Wales south coast, Speak of Country foregrounds the inextricable link between land and life, embodying a unique audiovisual conduit for reconciliation, reparation and the sharing of knowledge systems.
