After a life spent committing petty crimes, Ali-Reza, now 34 years old, has spent his life reoffending over and over again. Observing his cycle of recidivism, a prison warden attempts to intervene by arranging a marriage with a female prisoner. However, once released, the pair find life outside of prison equally difficult as a family unit.
Curator's Note
Mohammad Rasoulof’s modestly made debut feature film is an intriguing and affecting portrait of marginalised lives in Iran. Based on a true incident and fascinatingly casting the real-life couple as themselves, Rasoulof's film challenges viewers to redraw the line between documentary and narrative fiction.
The Twilight screened at the Mill Valley Film Festival before introducing Mohammad Rasoulof to audiences around the world.
