A beautifully observed and delicately delivered film set in suburban Melbourne, directed by Kalu Oji.
Beautiful and tender… this gem of an Australian film should go on your watchlist straight away.
Azubuike is a Nigerian-Igbo shoe salesman who has run a modest market shop for two decades. His world is upended when his 12-year-old son, Obinna, arrives unexpectedly to live with him.
As Azubuike attempts to pass on his business savvy, Igbo traditions and evolving ideas around masculinity, he must also confront the looming threat of gentrification and the capitalist forces grinding against his struggling shop. Together, father and son navigate cultural expectations and economic pressure, finding connection in the unspoken tenderness that grows between them.
Pasa Faho portrays a side of Melbourne and its migrant communities that is largely under-represented on screen. The title means “parts of a whole”, which speaks to the way Azubuike and Obinna reconnect not only with one another but also with their wider community, celebrating collective resilience in a world intent on erasing it.
The screening of Pasa Faho will be preceeded by Kalu Oji's short film What's in a Name.
This screening will be followed by a Crew Night Party in ACMI Cameo, FREE with your film ticket.
