Navigate virus-infected pop-ups, fire Cupid’s arrows to make strangers fall in love, and explore miniature toy worlds to solve puzzles.

Play three newly commissioned arcade games from Australian developers Craig Duturbure, Brie Healy and Ratmouse Games. Each one draws on the nostalgia of retro games and technologies, exploring how they shape our way of seeing the world today.

Quiver by Craig Duturbure

What if videogames create love not war? That’s the question Quiver explores by casting you as Cupid in this 2D radial shooter. Inspired by the classic 1983 arcade game Gyruss, shoot arrows at strangers to spread love before Valentine’s Day is over.

QIP by Brie Healy

Explore a miniature toy world to uncover letters that piece together the protagonist’s identity. Combining 2D arcade aesthetics with perspective-shifting mechanics, this puzzle platformer immerses players in nostalgia, childhood escapism and the spatial evolution of games.

Craig Duturbure

A tiny job advertisement in a 1993 newspaper called for a ‘Computer Game Designer’. This tiny advertisement set the path for an unexpected 30+ year career in videogames for Craig Duturbure. Starting out at Melbourne’s Beam Software during the 90s Super Nintendo era, Craig cut his teeth on a skateboarding dinosaur game, Radical Rex. He has since turned his game design and narrative design skills to other genres: Real-Time Strategy (Krush, Kill ’n’ Destroy), Video Film Noir Detective Adventure (The Dame Was Loaded), WW2 Aerial Fighting (Heroes of the Pacific) and a quirky Party Game (SpongeBob SquarePants: Lights, Camera, PANTS!).
