Buffalo Media’s Feature Director John Sheedy shares what he wishes he’d known.

About John Sheedy

A multi-award-winning Australian Director whose work has been staged extensively throughout Australia, John has directed productions for Belvoir, Bell Shakespeare, Parramatta Riverside, Black Swan State Theatre Company, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Theatre Company, Griffin and Opera Australia. His work has been recognised with multiple nominations for Helpmann and Sydney Theatre Awards.

John’s first short film Mrs McCutcheon had its Australian premier at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2017, winning Best Australian Short Film. It has gone on to receive official selection at 41 film festivals around the world and has been nominated for several festival awards, 14 of which it has won. Mrs McCutcheon won Short Film Production of the Year at the 17th Annual Screen Producers Australia Awards, and was nominated for Best Short Film at the 7th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

John's first feature film H is for Happiness for Cyan Films, Universal Pictures Australia and Level K had its world premiere at the 2019 Melbourne International Film Festival as the Family Gala Film. The film is based on the celebrated children’s book by Barry Jonsberg My Life as an Alphabet and has been adapted for the screen by Lisa Hoppe. It will be released theatrically in 2020.
