Seniors Film Festival 2026

Join us for five films that celebrate the range and enduring impact of Emma Thompson’s work.

Emma Thompson has been delivering extraordinary work for four decades. Her early collaborations with Merchant Ivory (Howards End, The Remains of the Day) established her as an actor of unusual intelligence and control. She went on to make Academy Awards history as the only person to win both Best Actress (Howards End) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Sense and Sensibility). She returned to the tensions between creativity and control in Saving Mr. Banks, where she portrayed P.L. Travers as prickly and guarded opposite Tom Hanks’ Walt Disney, offering a complex portrait of authorship, memory and artistic ownership.

In recent years, Thompson has become an outspoken advocate for better representation of older women on-screen, challenging an industry that too often sidelines women as they age. Good Luck to You, Leo Grande embodies this commitment, centring an older woman’s desire, sexuality and self-discovery with rare honesty.

Join us in our cinemas for a season celebrating Emma Thompson’s work as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival.
