One of Thor: Ragnarok‘s (2017) most heartbreaking moments also happens to be one of its most beautiful. Adelaide-based visual effects company Rising Sun Pictures were entrusted with a pivotal moment where Tessa Thompson’s character recounts the fatal encounter between the Valkyrie warriors and the Asgardian Goddess of Death, Hela. The flashback plays out in artful slow motion, with the carnage captured under glittering light thanks to an innovative lighting rig designed by Satellite Lab to create high-speed changes in lighting. Rising Sun Pictures have built an international reputation for their expertise in slow motion visual effects, which were also seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).
