The exhibition Transfigure will explore transformations of perception, body, movement, space and landscape to reveal tensions and wonder between technology and nature, identity and image. Moving through ACMI’s renowned Screen Gallery, visitors will encounter digital bodies, artificial intelligence, virtual constructions, gameplay scenarios, and startling images that will surprise and transform their experience. Transfigure will feature three internationally acclaimed interactive installations: Osmose and Ephémère*, immersive virtual reality environments by Canadian artist Char Davies; and Prosthetic Head, a computer-generated head that converses with visitors, created by Australian artist Stelarc. Also featuring, from ACMI’s Collections, other compelling media artworks by prominent Australian and international artists: Ian Andrews; Drew Berry; Paul Brown; Justine Cooper; Chris Cunningham (with Björk); Gina Czarnecki; Robert Gligorov; selectparks; Soda; Mike Stubbs; Steina Vasulka; Tamás Walizcky; Vikki Wilson.
