While the first home console, the Magnavox Odyssey, came out in 1972, it wasn’t the only launched in the decade. Around 1978, the two-player Hanimex TVG-8610C console was released for home use. Featuring detachable joysticks and 10 internally programmed games, it allowed players to customise difficulty levels, automation and keep score. Consoles like this needed to be run through the home TV to use as a monitor and also required a little domestic diplomacy with family members for a bigger share of screen time.
