A historical account through to 1914 of the American West presented as an eight-part documentary series for television. Includes archival footage, stills, newsreels, diaries and artefacts, and commentary by historians, writers and anthropologists (American and Native American), with spectacular images of the landscape and haunting background music. Narrated by Peter Coyote.
