Kokoda Front Line

This newsreel gave Australians the first glimpse of fighting on the Kokoda Trail and was used as propaganda. Photographer Damien Parer and director Ken G Hall restaged several combat scenes and asked viewers to join the war effort. In 1943, it won Australia’s first Oscar.
