School Strike for Climate

Film

On 20 September 2019, more than 300,000 people joined student protestors for the second School Strike for Climate rally to demand urgent political action on the climate crisis. That was just in Australia.

Roughly four million protestors took to the streets in more than 150 countries around the world. Many of those millions were schoolchildren inspired by climate activist Greta Thunberg’s protests in Sweden. School students in the regional Victorian city of Castlemaine were also inspired, founding the Australian School Strike for Climate movement and joining the global alliance of activists.

Thanks to social media, the movement is spreading throughout Australia. Digital platforms are helping to transmit the movement’s message, incite action and effect change.
